About Hampi

A UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, Hampi was once the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. Today it is a landscape of ruins, temples and monuments among giant boulders, from the Virupaksha Temple to the Vittala Temple and the Royal Enclosure.

Hampi is the history day of the Hampi, Dandeli and Goa tour. The ruins are spread over a wide area, so the group moves between the main sites by bus and on foot, from the Vittala temple complex in the morning to sunset over the boulders in the evening.

How to get to Hampi from Kerala

Best time to visit Hampi

October to February. The ruins are open-air and summer days are very hot.

Tips for college groups

• Start early: the stone and boulders get very hot by afternoon.
• Wear comfortable walking shoes and a cap, and carry a water bottle.
• Some temples ask visitors to remove footwear, so socks help on hot stone.
• Keep to the group near the river and rocky viewpoints.
